Chelsea boss MISSED son’s football match to land Fabregas

cesc costaThe Times have put an even bigger smile on the faces of Chelsea fans today in the Football Transfer Tavern after revealing just how keen Jose Mourinho was to sign Cesc Fabregas.

The midfielder was of course available this summer and despite Arsenal having the first option to re-sign him from Barcelona, Arsene Wenger opted to keep Mesut Ozil happy, reject Fabregas and then play Ozil out on the wing.

All the while, Jose Mourinho was working on a deal for Cesc.

The deal has turned out to be quite lucrative for the Blues given the partnership between star forward Diego Costa and his international compatriot Cesc with the pair breaking just about every record going in terms of goals and assists – and linking up to get the second against the Gunners to boot.

After a Man of the Match performance by Fabregas against his former club (insert Lampard joke here), we cannot help but revisit the quotes from Mourinho and respect how well the Chelsea boss did this summer.

He claimed: “I never go to watch him play and that weekend I wanted to go. But it was the only day that he [Fabregas] could travel to London so I had to stay to do my job. No problem. I will watch my son play other times.”

Chelsea fans. How vital is Cesc this season to your title hopes? Let us know your thoughts below.
