The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are beginning to think that a January departure is on the cards…
Cesc Fabregas has had a really disappointing season so far. Antonio Conte has seen fit to reduce the role that the Spaniard sees in the first team, with the defensive duo of Kante and Matic often preferred to the attacking dynamism of Fabregas.
It’s certainly a shame, as when Fabregas has played this year – he has typically looked very impressive. His range of passing and attacking play is something that nobody else in the Chelsea squad can provide, and you would think that his role in the Chelsea first team would be assured as a result.
However, that is simply not the case – and his lack of game time this season has, inevitably, led to suggestions from the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern that he could be sold in January.
It would make sense, of course, because Fabregas is quickly approaching his 30s – and if Chelsea are going to sell him, now is the time to make that happen.
Now, it would appear as though Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has added further fuel to the fire – by refusing to confirm that Fabregas will remain at Chelsea beyond January.
According to the Evening Standard, when asked if Fabregas would still be at Chelsea come February, Conte said: “In football, in my experience, it’s very difficult to guarantee always something, so this is difficult”.
He went on to take a step back, though, by claiming that “Cesc is an important player for us”.
There are a few mixed signals here, but the fact that Conte has seemingly refused to confirm that Fabregas would stay does seem to suggest that he is expendable.
Our landlord thinks it is likely that should Chelsea receive a decent bid for the Spaniard – they will accept in a heartbeat.
