Chelsea boss prevented Arsenal’s deadline day swoop

Demba Ba They may have the happiest fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern after the transfer window finally slammed shut, but Mirror Football report that Arsenal did miss out on another one of their targets on deadline day.

The club had been chasing a last minute deal for Chelsea outcast Demba Ba, yet saw the Senegalese forward remaining at Stamford Bridge.

Ba had also been linked with a move to former clubs Newcastle United and West Ham United, and was not short of suitors as the window edged to a close, despite clearly being out of favour at Chelsea.

Now the Blues have sent young forward Romelu Lukaku on loan to Everton for the season and have opted to keep Ba at the club.

Quite if he will get any playing time is another matter altogether, but we can understand why Jose Mourinho and his board did not want to aid London rivals Arsenal in strengthening their squad.

Meanwhile, Blues fans are looking a little downcast, as they have not only sent out Lukaku on loan again – a player most thought would make his mark this season – but have also failed to bring in another forward on deadline day.

Most thought that Jose Mourinho would have a trick or two up his sleeve, yet that did not turn out to be the case for the Blues, with Samuel Eto’o the only out and out striker the club managed to lure this summer.

Does this mean Mourinho views Arsenal as a rival for the Premier League title? Is Mourinho’s rivalry with Arsene Wenger as strong as ever? Let us know your thoughts below.
