Chelsea boss shoots down Arsenal’s transfer hopes

Juan MataArsenal fans are looking dismayed here in the Football Transfer Tavern as Metro note that they will miss out on yet another player.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has come out all guns blazing to dismiss the latest rumour linking the Spanish international with a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho has fully explained the reasons behind Juan Mata’s start to the season and the shocking lack of minutes the player has been given thus far.

After seeing Arsenal become the latest club to be linked with a swoop for the former Valencia star, Mourinho noted: “There is no chance Juan goes.

“He had a very small pre-season after the Confederations Cup. And during that pre-season he was injured.

“He started training two days before we played the first league match.

“He played against Aston Villa and I decided to put him on the bench against United.”

As one of our punters quips, this seems like more than a reasonable explanation and given Mata has played for two full years without any kind of break, Mourinho may well be giving the key man the rest he needs whilst he can.

The season is only three games in for Chelsea and as we all know, Mourinho will hope the Blues get to the latter stages of all the major competitions, meaning there will be numerous chances for him to utilise the depth of his squad.

Not only have Arsenal been told in no uncertain terms to back off, but there now seems to be no chance of Mata leaving for Manchester United either, given the deal to bring Wayne Rooney to Stamford Bridge looks like it has ended once and for all.

Is Mourinho telling the truth about Mata? Is he simply recovering from his summer extroverts? Let us know your thoughts below.
