Chelsea boss talks up transfer move

Wayne Rooney is not bigger than UnitedThe Daily Mail contained some rather interesting quotes from returning Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho ahead of the new season as they note that the Special One has lost none of his former humour.

Mourinho spoke about everything from his squad to his title ambitions and of course touched on improving his side – and the one player the club seem to be tracking above all others. Wayne Rooney seems to be the only player Mourinho wants at the club this summer and despite the likes of Samuel Eto’o showing interest in a move to the club (albeit for £300,000 per week) Rooney is the man Jose wants. Mourinho noted

‘Every one of us is looking to try and strengthen our squad,’

‘We all say ‘‘no’’ but we lie to the last day, when the market is open, because we’re all waiting for something to happen.

‘Even if we say we’re very happy with our squad, we lie, because we always want to make it better. We’ll see what happens, not just with us but with Man United. I like my squad. I’m not lying there.’

Given David Moyes and United have failed to sign anyone of note this transfer window, Jose seems to be ramping up the pressure on the club and is of course making no secret that he wants Rooney.
