The Daily Mail finally have some good news for Fernando Torres today in the Football Transfer Tavern as they note that his future at Chelsea could well be in the bag.
It seems that Chelsea have failed in the race to sign Wayne Rooney and of course that means that manager Jose Mourinho has to look elsewhere for his main man up top. During pre season, Romelu Lukaku seemed to be the first choice and Fernando Torres was on an extended break due to playing in the Confederations Cup. Now however, Jose seems to have given Torres the nod as his star forward and wants the player to finally shake off the £50 million tag and the flop reputation since Roman Abramovich bought him to the club.
Mourinho seems to have no faith whatsoever in Demba Ba and the forward could well find himself frozen out of the squad come the start of the season being back up to both Torres and Lukaku. Given even Rafa Benitez could not get the former Torres to stand up, it is a tall order for Mourinho yet as one of our punters quips, the Special One is known for taking on challenges with players and to restore Torres to his former glory would be one of the best achievements in Mourinho’s Chelsea career so far – and go down quite well with the board to boot.
