Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have raised their glasses in agreement after their temporary manager confirmed he wants to reward the club's hero with a fresh deal.

The Independent quotes Hiddink as stating he'd give Terry a new one-year deal if it was down to him, after his controversial late equaliser on Saturday gave Chelsea a point at home to Everton- a game where the former England skipper also scored an own-goal.

Terry's current deal expires at the end of the season and there's doubts over his future, with Chelsea's policy being to only offer one-year to players over the age of thirty. However, Dutch boss Hiddink believes it's an easy decision to make.

“If I am asked, I will give my honest opinion about that. If I say what I’m saying now, spontaneously out of my heart, then you can imagine what I think."

“I fully agree [he remains important], not just with his equalising goal, but with his attitude and the actions he did defensively and offensively. His commitment is huge for this team and for the club."

“For me there’s not much [difference] between John in 2009 and now. For me, you would have to underline that with data. You can say, ‘hey, make a test and say he has lost some speed’, but I cannot see that. He’s fit, he trains well, he takes care of himself, takes a good rest, which you have to do at that age. I cannot see that he is slowing down a bit.”

Terry has been criticised at stages this season amid Chelsea's woeful campaign, which sees them occupy a spot in the bottom-half of the table, but his performances have been revitalised under the guidance of Hiddink.

Our landlord believes another year for Terry at Chelsea would be beneficial, though he states his playing time must be reduced drastically if the Blues are going to adapt to the long-term without their beloved icon.
