There is some serious drama here in the Football Transfer Tavern as Metro note that Jose Mourinho has refused to rule out the possibility of a swap deal involving Juan Mata and Wayne Rooney.
Chelsea have been looking to land a forward all summer and the one they want more than anyone is Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.
The club have as we all know had two bids rejected and now Mourinho spoke about the bids, insisting they were straight cash, with no players involved.
When asked if Juan Mata could be included in the offer he noted: “That’s hypothetical, because they didn’t ask.
“The two answers we got from Man United is “we don’t accept the bid”, “we’re not interested in selling the player.”
Chelsea are not giving up in their chase for Rooney and have plans to make a third bid after the clash at Old Trafford.
Juan Mata meanwhile has growing concerns over his future at the club and given the arrival of Willian we can understand this.
Not only are Manchester United being linked with the Spanish international but La Liga side Atletico Madrid are also interested in taking Mata on loan for the season.
Quite what Chelsea will make of the outrageous offer from Diego Simeone remains to be seen but the option of Mata going on loan to a club that they will not have to face domestically could be appealing.
Will Mourinho sanction a swap? Let us know your thoughts below.
