Following his commanding performances for French league leaders Olympique Marseille, Taye Taiwo is attracting interest from all over Europe.
The defender’s most likely destination is either Spain or England, with Athetico Madrid and Valencia keen to take Taiwo to La Liga, while across the Channel, Chelsea and Manchester City also remain keen on securing the 25 year-old’s services.
Taiwo might be hopeful of making the left-back role at Eastlands his own, however he could only hope to be a back-up for Ashley Cole should he opt for a move to Stamford Bridge instead. Money, of course, is not an object for the Premiership heavyweights, and Marseille would accept offers of around £8m.
For Taiwo, then, this may all come down to a test of character; Athletico and Valencia offer first team football, but little chance of silverware, whereas although neither City nor Chelsea could guarantee the defender a starting role, he would nevertheless be part of a team challenging for honours on many fronts.
So, that’s good food, good weather and guaranteed games, or huge amounts of money and the chance for success, if not always a key factor in achieving it: which would you choose?
