Chelsea close in on £20 million Ashley Cole replacement

Filipe LuisChelsea fans are looking rather bemused here in the Football Transfer Tavern as the Daily Express claim that the Blues have landed a £20 million replacement for Ashley Cole.

Jose Mourinho has closed in on Atletico Madrid full back Filipe Luis, and is set to agree a £20 million fee for the Brazilian.

Quite why the Blues boss sees fit to spend that kind of money on a 29-year-old when Cole has just agreed a £160,000 pay cut with Roma remains to be seen, but the fact remains – Chelsea are getting their man.

The Brazilian is also good friends with new Blues forward Diego Costa, and the feeling is that he will help the player settle in at Stamford Bridge.

After a poor World Cup for Costa’s adopted nation Spain, we think that a good start will be vital in his Chelsea career should he wish to avoid becoming the next Fernando Torres!

Filipe Luis meanwhile will have to oust Spanish international Cesar Azpilicueta should he wish to play week in, week out and we think that might be some task following Azpilicueta’s impressive performance last season!

Chelsea fans. Do you think that a £20 million left back is what the club needs to push on for the title next season? Let us know your thoughts below.
