Chelsea’s need for defensive depth is apparent, and the fans in the Transfer Tavern think that the flanks are where the most improvement is needed…
The duo of Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso had good campaigns last season, and they both established themselves as vital cogs in the Chelsea machine, but there can be no doubting that there is room for improvement.
Marcos Alonso was solid, but rarely did he stand out – whilst Victor Moses really seemed to struggle as the season progressed to its end.
The situation surrounding Victor Moses is particularly concerning for supporters in the Transfer Tavern, and it must not be forgotten that he is not naturally a defender, and that could certainly prove problematic down the road.
Antonio Conte is a man with a plan, though, and he clearly sees the need for improvement too. According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea are closing in on a deal for Real Madrid right-back Danilo, with the publication touting a deal as ‘imminent’.
Danilo has had a tough spell in Spain, but there is no doubting his qualities. He is particularly efficient going forward, and whilst Moses was solid last season, he lacked the consistency that a player like Danilo would ideally bring.
At 26-years-old, he is entering the prime of his career, and our landlord thinks that his pace and crossing ability will tie in perfectly with Chelsea’s formation.
