Chelsea close to fending off Man United interest and concluding midfielder deal

The Chelsea fans and the Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are taunting each other ahead of today’s crunch match.

The two sides meet each other today at Stamford Bridge with Jose Mourinho returning to his old club.

And rumours had started circling that the Portuguese boss has been eyeing up a Chelsea midfielder to add to his Man United squad.

After signing Nemanja Matic in the summer, Mourinho has reportedly turned his interest to another Chelsea central midfielder – Cesc Fabregas.

But, according to an exclusive report by The London Evening Standard, Chelsea are on the verge of agreeing a new deal with Fabregas, which would inevitably fend off any interest from the Red Devils.

The Spain international joined Chelsea in 2014 from Barcelona and was strongly linked with Man United before his switch to Stamford Bridge.

In recent times, Mourinho has wanted to reunite with the former Arsenal man as he aimed to take advantage of the fact that Fabregas is entering the final eighteen months of his contract, which is due to expire in summer 2019.

And the 30-year-old has now revealed in an interview with The London Evening Standard that he wishes to extend his deal with the Blues.
