The publication reports that sources in Italy have indicated that the Italian international is preparing to finally leave the Stadio Olimpico after spending his entire career at the Rome-based team.
The defensive midfielder has long been the subject of interest of interest from the Premier League with former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini making repeated attempts to sign the 29-year-old to no avail.
Chelsea and Jose Mourinho could now succeed where Mancini failed and land the Roma midfield general as a replacement for John Obi Mikel who is wanted by Ligue 1 big spenders Monaco as well as Turkish duo Galatasaray and Trabzonspor.
De Rossi has always been reluctant to leave the club he loves and where he has become a legend with 306 appearances but after a disagreement with the club’s hierarchy a move could finally be on the cards.
He apparently wants to link up with Mourinho and has now set his heart on a move to Stamford Bridge.
