Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been winding up their Tottenham Hotspur counterparts today, after a piece of news suggested the Blues had stolen a march in the race for a quality striker.
The Mail states Chelsea are closing in on the signature of Fulham’s young striker Moussa Dembele, who has scored 16-goals this season for the Championship club and was courted by Tottenham Hotspur in January.
19-year-old Dembele is out of contract with The Cottagers in the summer and has made it clear he will not pen a new deal, with it likely the talented striker will make the jump to a Premier League club- although it’s likely he’ll spend next year out on-loan.
Whilst Spurs were previously considered to be the frontrunners in the chase for the teenager’s signature, Chelsea have made their move and talks are said to be progressing well. Although no transfer fee would be required, Fulham would be due a compensation and the figure would be set by a tribunal.
Chelsea, of course, need wholesale changes this summer and their strike-force is likely to undergo wholesale changes, with Loic Remy expected to be sold, Alexandre Pato and Radamel Falcao seeing their loan spells draw to a close and Diego Costa attracting European interest.
Which move would be better for Dembele, Chelsea or Spurs? Let us know in the comments below!
