Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have had their interest attracted by reports that their managerial search is drawing to a close, which has seen them completely forget about the game of pool they were midway through.
Football Insider sources state Chelsea are close to securing a deal to appoint Italy’s international boss Antonio Conte as the successor to Jose Mourinho, who was axed in December following an awful start to the season.
Conte was immediately linked with the vacant position and now seems set to take charge when Guus Hiddink’s temporary reign draws to a close in the summer, after talks between Chelsea and Conte’s representatives progressed smoothly last week.
The Italian boss has achieved great success in his homeland, which includes a total of eight Serie A titles during his player and manager career, and he’s informed the Italian football federation he wants to return to club management after this summer’s European Championships.
Our landlord believes Conte is a shrewd choice as the next Chelsea boss and believes he has the credentials to build the Blues into a successful side once again.
Chelsea fans, would you be happy with this appointment? Let us know in the comments below!
