The Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are still recovering from the shocking news which broke yesterday regarding Everton striker Romelu Lukaku.
Everyone here in the bar had expected that the Belgian international would be making a move to Stamford Bridge this summer, however, reports on Thursday claimed that rivals Manchester United had agreed a fee for the former Blue.
While the news quietened our resident Chelsea fans for a while, reports from The Guardian today have got them chatting again.
The newspaper claim that despite the move from United, Chelsea still remain of the mindset that they are in fact closer to landing a deal to bring the 24-year-old back to west London.
With the Red Devils supposedly set to pay £75m for the Toffees top scorer, the powers that be at the Bridge would have to at least match such a fee, meaning any deal would break the club record fee of £50m, paid to bring Spanish striker Fernando Torres from Liverpool.
Our landlord, however, has warned that in his it doesn’t seem like we’ll have to wait long to see Lukaku holding aloft a United shirt, with things looking all but done.
