Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have assembled around the bar to discuss some exciting news that could give them a boost before the arrival of their new manager.
The Mirror says the Blues are confident of winning the race for Gonzalo Higuain and are hopeful of securing a deal before Antonio Conte arrives at Stamford Bridge.
Conte is keen to overhaul Chelsea’s lacklustre squad and is eyeing some top-quality additions to help him achieve his targets in west London, although it’s expected the majority of Chelsea’s transfer business will be concluded after the Italian’s exploits with his national side at this summer’s European Championships.
However, with Higuain potentially on the market after a few years of varied success with Napoli, Chelsea are confident of beating their rivals to the Argentine’s signature in a deal worth around £45m.
Such a deal would make Higuain the second-most expensive signing in Chelsea history, behind Fernando Torres, and it would give the Blues a ready made replacement if Diego Costa decides to call time on his spell in England.
Chelsea fans, would Higuain be a better fit at your club than Costa? Let us know in the comments below!
