The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern want one thing next season – to challenge for the Premier League title. The Blues have a history of doing just that over the last few years, though this season they’ve fallen well short.
However, it’s important not to forget that the Blues’ squad is mostly the same as the one that defeated Man City and everyone else in the English top flight to take the crown last season.
As a result, next season, Antonio Conte’s men could be just one or two major signings away from forcing their way back to the top of the pile once again.
Man City, though, will no doubt be keen to improve their squad further, and according to Goal, one player that they are considering is Jamaican attacker Leon Bailey. One thing that Chelsea cannot afford to do is let the Citizens get any further away from them, and so our landlord thinks that making a move for the attacker ahead of Man City makes perfect sense.
Conveniently, Bailey is just the sort of player that Chelsea need, and signing a player of that magnitude would certainly give them a fantastic chance of catching and even moving past the Citizens next season.
Bailey, who is rated at £40.5 million by Transfer Markt, has enjoyed a fantastic year over in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen. He’s picked up 9 goals, alongside 6 assists, and so his efficiency in front of goal is evident.
He’s known for his incredible pace, and that makes him a real menace for opposition defenders. He’s able to use it to fantastic effect down the wings, and he’s regularly seen quickly moving past players and driving towards goal. He’s also got fantastic technical ability, and so when running isn’t an option, he’s able to calmy dribble and dance around players with ease.
With Chelsea needing a bit of an offensive rebuild, particularly given Pedro’s poor recent form, it would make sense for the club to invest in a player like Bailey. Beating a team like Man City to his signature would make it even sweeter, and it’s fair to say that an attack made up of Willian, Eden Hazard and Leon Bailey would be a truly terrifying prospect for opposition defenders – and it would be an attack capable of challenging at the very top.
