For the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, a few new signings this summer are absolutely essential…
Chelsea had a fantastic season last year, but with everyone now aware of how good Antonio Conte is – they won’t be taking him lightly next season. Indeed, next year will be far tougher for the Blues, and Conte needs to make sure that he upgrades his side as a result.
With John Terry set to leave the club at the end of the month, and a move to Bournemouth being touted for Nathan Ake – the Chelsea defence is an area of particular interest, and the Telegraph are reporting that the Blues could look to solve that issue with a move for a Serie A star.
According to the Telegraph, Chelsea could launch a move to bring Kostas Manolas to Stamford Bridge this summer, and whilst no contact has been made as of yet, the Blues could look to capitalise on issues surrounding the defender’s proposed move to Russia.
A move for Manolas would certainly make sense, with the Roma defender proving himself as one of Italy’s finest centre-halves in recent years. Great with the ball at his feet, fantastic in the air and a real force at the back, he would certainly be a fantastic option for Antonio Conte to have.
It remains to be seen whether this move will go ahead, but Antonio Conte certainly needs to upgrade his defence, and a reported £26 million move for Manolas may well be the best bet.
