The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have very high hopes for young Izzy Brown…
However, whilst many supporters would love to see him given a chance in the Blues’ first team, that is looking increasingly unlikely. According to the Telegraph, Chelsea are in talks with Huddersfield over a deal for Brown, with discussions over a £8m move said to be at an ‘advanced’ stage.
Brown did, of course, play for Huddersfield last season, spending the season on loan with the club as they sealed promotion to the Premier League.
Offensively, it is clearly a period of change at Stamford Bridge, with the future of main striker Diego Costa looking uncertain at present. Whilst Brown is unlikely to be able to compete for a starting berth at Stamford Bridge this year, the fact that Chelsea appears open to selling him without giving him a chance in pre-season could suggest that they don’t really see him as a fit for that position anytime soon.
Brown is a very talented attacker in his own right, though, having impressed for years whilst playing for Chelsea’s various developmental teams. Last season, which he spent with Huddersfield, was a breakout year for him – and whilst he initially appeared sparingly, he went on to play a crucial role for the side.
Our landlord hopes that Chelsea will include a buy-back clause in any deal for Brown, as they have been stung far too many times by letting young players go too soon.
