Antonio Conte is doing well in the Premier League, but the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that he is able to solve a pretty significant issue over the coming days…
Chelsea goalkeeper Amir Begovic could, reportedly, be set for a move away from Stamford Bridge, and with just a few days between now and the end of the transfer window – the Blues might not have much time to bring in a replacement.
Whilst rarely a starter for Antonio Conte, Begovic’s role in the Chelsea first team is vital – with the Bosnian just one injury from a regular starting role. Thibaut Courtois has had a decent fitness record so far, but that could change in an instant.
The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern were delighted, then, to hear that Conte hasn’t forgotten about the importance finding a replacement for Begovic if he leaves – with the Daily Star noting that Chelsea are considering a move for 35-year-old AC Milan shot-stopper Diego Lopez.
Currently on loan at Espanyol, Chelsea could look to ask AC Milan to call the loan spell short – with a move for Lopez likely to be required this month – should Begovic leave.
Lopez is a regular in La Liga, having made 16 starts in the Spanish top flight so far this season.
Given that he is a regular starter in Spain, our landlord thinks that Conte may find it difficult to convince Lopez to swap that for a bit-part role at Chelsea – though the prospect of winning the Premier League at the end of the season could be too much for him to pass up.
