Interesting reports have arrived in the Football Transfer Tavern this evening as talkSPORT suggest that Chelsea are chasing Marseille midfield ace Gianelli Imbula.
Reports indicate that Jose Mourinho wanted Imbula during the summer but he decided to make the move to Marsille in search of regular first team football.
The midfielder moved from Guingamp in the summer for a fee reportedly in the region of 7.5 million euros (£6.5 million), signing a five-year contract at the Stade Velodrome but that has reportedly not put off the Blues who are tracking him with a view to a possible future bid.
Following his summer switch, last year’s Ligue 2 Player of the Year has enjoyed a fine start to life with the French giants and that has led to interest from the Premier League.
He has appeared in five of his side’s seven top flight fixtures thus far and some customers in the bar distinctly remember the French Under-21 international impressing during their recent 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in the Gunners’ opening Champions League group stage fixture.
One Blues punter ordering at the bar questions why the French side would want to sell the youngster after he had only just joined the club but as the landlord points out, you never know in this hectic world of transfers especially when Mourinho is involved.
Is this really the sort of signing that the Blues should be targeting during January? Let us know your thoughts below.
