Chelsea defender suffers potentially long-term injury blow

This has come as a pretty significant blow for the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern…

Chelsea defender Baba Rahman didn’t have the best start to life in the Premier League, with the young defender struggling to adapt to life during his debut season in England.

He, for the most part, was utilised as a bit-part player, and whilst he showed talent in bursts; it was pretty clear that he was not ready for the Premier League.

This, inevitably, led to a short-term departure over the summer, with the left-back moving to Schalke for the season – but now it would appear as that loan spell is as good as over.

As confirmed by an official Ghanaian FA Press Release, Rahman has reportedly suffered “a rupture of the meniscus and a particular tear of the anterior cruciate ligament with fluid collection in the left knee” – an issue that has plagued football in recent years.

Whilst they do not state how long he will be out, the BBC have noted in the past that major knee injuries can take up to 6 months to recover from – which is a huge blow.

This is particularly problematic for Chelsea as it means that the injury could see the Ghanaian out until the summer – meaning that it could interrupt a future sale or his reimplementation into the Chelsea first team.

The Blues will, of course, know all too well about knee injuries such as this – with Michael Essien being a high-profile casualty of the condition.

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are pretty disappointed with this, given that many were hoping for a Stamford Bridge return for Rahman next summer.
