Chelsea departure would cost world-record fee

Mourinho.jpgChelsea fans have been rubbing their eyes in disbelief this evening in the Transfer Tavern, as it emerged they could break an unwanted record.

Under-fire manager Jose Mourinho looks safe for the time being but The Daily Star state a decision to fire him would cost the Blues £37.5m in compensation; more than any club has ever paid a manager after their dismissal.

Paying such a large sum to a manager is nothing new for Roman Abramovich, who had to hand £12.6m to Felipe Scolari, £12m to Andre Villas-Boas and £6m to Carlo Ancelotti.

However, the figure of compensation to Mourinho blows any previous amount out of the water- only £12.5m shy of the record-fee they paid for their most expensive signing in history, Fernando Torres.

Fans at the bar are having good fun discussing what £37.5m could buy in the current market, with a recent example being Manchester United new-boy Anthony Martial.

Chelsea fans, is it worth paying this staggering amount to relieve Mourinho of his duties? Let us know in the comments below!
