Chelsea director steps up transfer activity as Blues seek midfielder deal

With defeat in the Community Shield still fresh in the minds, the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly awaiting a few more signings…

Chelsea have been quiet over the last few weeks, but after struggling against Arsenal, that tide appears to be changing.

According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia is leading the charge as Chelsea step up their transfer activity ahead of the new season. A host of targets are reportedly being considered, but Chelsea are said to be increasingly keen to tie up a deal for Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater as they look to bulk out their options in the middle of the park.

Chelsea have been linked with a move for Drinkwater over the last week or so, with Sky Sports originally noting their interest, but the Blues appear to have made their move for the Englishman now – with Conte clearly keen to tie a deal up.

He would be a decent addition at Stamford Bridge, but far more depth is needed up and down the pitch, with the Blues lacking strength at present.

It may have taken a loss for them to recognise it, but it appears as though the Chelsea brass are finally stepping up.

Landlord’s Verdict

Chelsea desperately need some new players, and Danny Drinkwater would be a great start.

Sure, he isn’t as exciting as Alvaro Morata, but he is a solid, experienced player, and that is exactly what Chelsea need right now.

Chelsea’s first team is very strong, and so the focus should be on securing depth, especially with so many competitions to fight for next season.
