The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting a quiet few days on the transfer front…
There have been some question marks over Antonio Conte’s head over the past few weeks, with a few of the Chelsea fans in the pub hoping for their side to be a bit more active in the transfer market this month.
It must be said that, on paper, you could argue that Chelsea’s squad isn’t as good as some of the other sides in the Premier League, and so you would think that some investment would be needed to secure a Premier League title win – but that may not be so true.
You only have to look at how well Chelsea have performed this season to understand that they simply do not need any more players. From Courtois to Azpilicueta, to Matic and through to Diego Costa – everyone has been pulling their weight at Stamford Bridge, and the results have reflected that.
It also cannot be ignored that so much of Chelsea’s squad has yet to really be utilised, too. The likes of Fabregas, Willian and Chalobah have hardly had a look in so far this season, and that just goes to show how strong the Blues have been domestically.
A lot of this has to do with Chelsea’s lack of games this season, with the Champions League and EFL Cup not a factor for Antonio Conte so far this season. Sure, a bit more depth might be needed as Chelsea get back into the fray next season, but for the next few months – the Blues are fine.
Conte has been wise so far this year, and has largely stuck with what he has available to him. Chalobah has seen a rebirth, whilst Nathan Ake was recently recalled from a loan spell at Bournemouth. Conte really is changing the tune at Stamford Bridge. It is no longer about how much money he can spend, but it’s rather – how best can he resolve his problems. Conte had a left-back problem, and he solved it with Ake. Now, at present, you can’t really see any gaping holes within the Chelsea first team, so why spend money for the sake of it?
