For the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, 29-year-old defender Leonardo Bonucci has been touted as the one that got away this season…
Chelsea were reportedly keen on the Italian last summer following the arrival of Antonio Conte, with the new Blues boss keen to link up with his former defensive stalwart – but a deal never came to pass.
It was a real blow for the Blues, given that he is arguably one of Europe’s best defenders, and whilst David Luiz has been a fine alternative so far – many are still dreaming of their club signing Bonucci.
Recent events over the last few days have given them a boost in that regard, with the defender reportedly falling out with Juventus manager Max Allergi.
And according to the Independent, that has given Antonio Conte reason to be hopeful once more. The Independent are reporting that Chelsea, alongside Man City, could look to make another huge move for the defender this summer – with both sides reportedly encouraged by the recent falling out between player and manager.
This has come as a huge boost to both sets of fans in the Transfer Tavern, with the Blues in the pub particularly pleased. With John Terry unlikely to remain at the club next season, Chelsea clearly need a new defender – and Bonucci is one of the world’s best.
He has made 17 Serie A starts this season, scoring once.
