Chelsea expect to land striker in next 48 hours

Chelsea supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern look pleased with the news from Mail Online reporting that the Blues expect to complete the signing of Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto’o within the next 48 hours.

The former Inter Milan striker has been put up for sale by Anzhi Makhachkala after their billionaire owner Suleiman Kerimov grew tired of bankrolling the Russian side with very little success and Mourinho is seeking a reunion with the forward at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have already landed Willian from the Russian Premier League side in a £32 million deal pending the attacking midfielder getting a work permit and the striker’s move to Stamford Bridge would be part of the same financial settlement.

Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal have been linked with the 32-year-old but have been put off by his massive wage demands as he currently collects a staggering £300,000-a-week in Russia and will want something similar upon a move to England.

The Blues look short in attack with just Fernando Torres, Romelu Lukaku and Demba Ba to choose from and Mourinho opted for Andre Schurrle in the central attacking role during Monday’s disappointing 0-0 draw against Manchester United.

Eto’o has hit a decent return of 36 goals in his 71 appearances for the Russian side and would bring with him a rich pedigree to the Premier League as Mourinho finally gives up the chase for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney after reports emerged today that he would sign a new contract at Old Trafford.

Chelsea fans. What do you make of the impending arrival of Eto’o? Can he still do the business? Let us know your thoughts below.
