Chelsea expected to announce new coach imminently

Guus HiddinkThe Chelsea fans gathering in the Transfer Tavern to discuss who their next manager will be have had their discussions brought to an abrupt end, as it seems the decision has already been made.

Sky Sports reports that Guus Hiddink is set to manage Chelsea until the end of the season, after the Australian FA posted a congratulatory message to their former employee.

69-year-old Hiddink is currently out of work since leaving his post as Holland boss in the summer and he enjoyed a previous interim spell at Chelsea in 2009, where he led the Blues to FA Cup success.

A statement on the Australian FA’s website, which was later updated to state Hiddink is the favourite for the role, initially stated:

“Guus Hiddink has taken temporary charge at struggling EPL giant Chelsea after the club announced they’d sacked coach Jose Mourinho overnight following the club’s disastrous run in the English Premier League.”

On top of that a former player of Hiddink’s, Mateja Kezman, told Croatian media outlet Index that Hiddink informed him that he’s taken charge of the striker’s former club.

An official announcement from Chelsea has yet to be made.
