The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern think that a lot of work is still needed between now and the end of the transfer window…
With so many departures at Stamford Bridge this summer, and the return of the Champions League next season, just a few major signings aren’t quite going to cut it at Chelsea – with a few more bodies still required.
With over a month still to go, though, Antonio Conte appears confident – with the Evening Standard reporting that the Blues are still hoping for at least three signings between now and the end of the season. A wing-back, midfielder and a forward are still on Conte’s wish list, with the Blues reportedly confident that they are close to tieing up a few more deals.
Chelsea’s main core of players is now solid, especially with the recent capture of Alvaro Morata, but there is no doubting that there is a lot more work to be done.
It has been a strong summer for the Blues, and key areas like the midfield and attack have been improved – but they are still some way off ensuring that their squad is at full strength.
A particular area for concern is on the flanks, with Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso both lacking competition at present. This is a problem, as if either man suffers an injury, Chelsea could be out of luck.
Likewise, another midfielder would be a wise acquisition – with just Cesc Fabregas, Tiemoue Bakayoko and N’Golo Kante on offer for Conte so far.
It has been a good start to the summer, but Conte cannot rest until his work is done.
