The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling very nervous ahead of their side’s crunch clash with Tottenham…
Always one of the most exciting games in the Premier League calender, the Blues are set to face their London rivals on Sunday, and preparations for the game couldn’t be going much worse.
Indeed, Antonio Conte has somewhat of a selection heartache ahead of the game, with the Italian having to deal with the unavailability of both Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas – leaving him short of options in both defence and midfield.
It would appear as though Chelsea are keen to ensure a resolution to the crisis surrounding Chelsea’s midfield sooner rather than later, though, with the Mirror reporting that Chelsea are hopeful of developments this week in their chase for Danny Drinkwater. It is said that the Blues are to put in an increased offer as they look to sign the Englishman.
It remains unclear as to whether Drinkwater will be a Chelsea player by the end of the week, but clearly the Blues are working to that end given the lack of options that Antonio Conte has heading into Chelsea’s clash with Tottenham.
At present, N’Golo Kante is the Blues’ only fully fit first team central midfielder, meaning that if Drinkwater were to come in, he would likely be thrust into the first team picture immediately.
If Chelsea are looking to sign a superstar to bring the mood of the fans up – Danny Drinkwater is not the player they want.
However, Drinkwater is exactly the sort of player that they need – with the Englishman impressing for Leicester over the last year or two. He is solid in the midfield, and his partnership with N’Golo Kante – which stems back to their time at Leicester together – means they could come together fantastically.
A deal remains some way off, but Chelsea clearly want it done.
