Chelsea eyeing shock deal for experienced international striker

The Daily Express states Chelsea are eyeing a shock move to bring Robin Van Persie back to the Premier League, in a deal that would subsequently end his nightmare stint with Fenerbahce in Turkey.

Former Arsenal and Manchester United forward Van Persie has struggled in mainland Europe since leaving Old Trafford in the summer but may be offered an escape route, with Chelsea keen to strengthen their forward options.

However, a deal for Van Persie hinges on whether Chelsea can complete the signing of Alexandre Pato from Corinthians. Should the Brazilian sign for the Blues, then Van Persie is unlikely to move to Stamford Bridge.

With Chelsea struggling at the wrong-end of the Premier League table, a move for a striker with a strong record in English football makes sense. However, our landlord was just as shocked as the Chelsea fans in the corner as it’s clear Van Persie is past his best.

He was stripped of the Holland captaincy amid their disastrous qualifying campaign for the European Championships, which resulted in the back-to-back World Cup semi-finalists failing to secure a place at Euro 2016.

Chelsea fans, would Van Persie be a good fit for your club? Let us know in the comments below!
