Chelsea eye up another long-term left back solution

shaw.jpgHere in the Football Transfer Tavern it was only yesterday that we were digesting the news that Chelsea could well be after Leighton Baines and now an even more sensational claim has been made in the Daily Mail.

The publication claim that despite having Ashley Cole tied to the club for what is likely to be the rest of his career, Chelsea are mindful of Cole’s age and potential proneness to injury and now want him to train a protégé to eventually take over at left full back.

Clearly money has never really been an issue for the mega wealthy side and the pursuit of their new target Luke Shaw will cost at least £10 million. The highly rated youngster was apparently the subject of a bid from Chelsea during the winter transfer window – which was promptly rejected by Southampton before the youngster penned a new deal at St. Mary’s.

This has not put Chelsea off however and Roman Abramovich has set his heart on luring the 17-year-old to Stamford Bridge. Shaw is so highly rated by scouts and pundits in the game currently and has already added an England Under-21 cap to his aspiring CV.

Chelsea are of course in a major fight for a top four spot this season and could even see Spurs overtake them tonight if they win against West Ham United at Upton Park.

Will the Blues snare Shaw in the summer? Rate this rumour below.
