Chelsea eyeing £70m deal for South American star who could replace Fabregas

Chelsea fans in The Transfer Tavern enjoyed a fantastic season lording it over fans from other teams drowning their sorrows at the bar after returning to the top of the tree in English football under Antonio Conte.

The Italian’s first year in charge of the Blues could hardly have gone bettter. He got them playing classy, winning football and turned them into the best team in England once again.

Now they’re looking ahead to new challenges and go into a big summer transfer window with money to spend to help achieve their ambition of being a force in the UEFA Champions League next season.

To that end, Spanish publication AS report that Conte is eyeing up a move for Real Madrid’s Colombian superstar James Rodriguez.

The report states that the Chelsea boss has decided he’ll get rid of Cesc Fabregas this summer and believes Rodriguez can fill his shoes in the midfield.

To get their man though, AS reckon that the Blues will have to shell out up to £70m, not an insubstantial fee, even by Chelsea’s standards.

He could be worth it though. With 11 goals and 8 assists from midfield and attacking midfield this season, Rodriguez has been in lethal form even though he hasn’t been first choice under Zinedine Zidane.

What do you think Chelsea fans? Is James Rodriguez one of your priorities this summer or do you have another blockbuster name you’d rather see arrive at Stamford Bridge?
