Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are well aware that their club needs to put in some major investment on the market this summer, so these reports have got the lads by the pool table in a real party mood.
Spanish outlet Don Balon states Chelsea are preparing to shatter their club-record in the transfer market, and set a new record for British football overall, with a mammoth £63.5m bid for Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos.
The World Cup winner, who has previously been linked to Manchester United, has endured a difficult season with the Spanish giants this term and Chelsea want the 30-year-old to replacing their departing captain John Terry.
Fernando Torres currently remains as Chelsea’s most expensive recruit, with £50m paid to Liverpool turning out to be a disaster, whilst the all-time British transfer record is held by Angel Di Maria’s £59.7m move to Manchester United in 2014- which, again, didn’t turn out to plan.
Given the age of Ramos, it’s surprising to see such a high price stated and Chelsea would only get a few years service out of him. However, he’s still widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the world and would certainly improve Chelsea’s back-line.
Is Ramos still worth this audacious price? Let us know in the comments below!
