Chelsea eyeing surprise move for Manchester United man

Manchester United v Southampton - Barclays Premier LeagueDaily Mirror are claiming that stories in Italy (CalcioMercato) say that Chelsea are interested in signing Victor Valdes from Manchester United – a story that has got Chelsea fans excited this evening here inside the Football Transfer Tavern.

The former Barcelona goalkeeper has fallen out of favour with Manchester United and manager Louis van Gaal after apparently refusing to play for the under-21’s team, and has not been included in the first team this season. This could make him available for free transfer or a very small fee in the January window.

Our landlord here in the Transfer Tavern thinks the turn of events has been strange and thinks the goalkeeper still has real quality, which makes it hard to believe Van Gaal is happy to leave him out. A decision which was especially strange when David De Gea looked like he was leaving for Real Madrid.

Chelsea have started the season with a serious problem in the goalkeeping department. First choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has been ruled out for several months after under going surgery on his knee and is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

A plethora of Chelsea fans here inside the Football Transfer Tavern feel that Mourinho would look after Valdes, and he could turn out to be a very shrewd purchase!
