Most punters in the Football Transfer Tavern are reflecting on tonight’s international action from Wembley when news emerges of another possible left back target at Stamford Bridge.
According to talkSPORT, Chelsea are tracking Swiss international full back Ricardo Rodriguez as they seek a long-term successor to Ashley Cole.
German sources indicate that the Blues are keeping tabs on the Wolfsburg defender as they try to find a replacement for the 32-year-old at Stamford Bridge.
The England international’s current contract expires at the end of the season and there is reportedly some doubt surrounding whether he will be offered an extension.
With Cole, Frank Lampard, and John Terry all out of contract in the summer, there could be yet another saga at the Bridge similar to that of Lampard last summer, who was finally given an extension after intense speculation over his future.
Cole still remains an integral part of the Blues side under Jose Mourinho, but the club are still thought to be looking at younger alternatives for the long-term.
Rodriguez, 21, has been on the club’s radar for some time after putting in some impressive performances since joining Wolfsburg for £7.5 million from FC Zurich in 2012.
The highly regarded youngster has has already won 18 international caps for his country and is rated at around £9 million by the Bundesliga club.
It was only yesterday in the tavern that Southampton starlet Luke Shaw was linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge and it appears that the pursuit for Cole’s successor is hotting up.
