Chelsea face major competition to land number one target

Diego CostaFrowns are on the faces of Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern after the Daily Mail claimed the Blues may miss out on a top target.

Diego Costa is the not so secret number one target of Blues manager Jose Mourinho this summer, but the club could once again be set to miss out on a forward of their choice because of Ligue 1 side Monaco.

The mega rich club beat Chelsea to the signing of Radamel Falcao last summer – not that the move has worked out too well for the now injured forward – and Chelsea are worried it could happen again.

The wages that Monaco are able to offer – tax free of course – are a massive lure for any player.

As one of our regulars claims, if a forward at the height of their prowess such as Costa would choose to go to a side playing in front of 3,000 each week for money – not one in the Premier League and one that can win any trophy on offer at that, this would speak volumes.

We think that Costa has a little bit more about him than that – but as our landlord notes, no one has actually considered the possibility he may actually stay at current side Atletico Madrid.

Diego Simeone’s men are leading the pack domestically and carry an away goal into the semi-final of the Champions League with Barcelona this week. They could well be without Costa once more who picked up a knock in the first leg at the Camp Nou.

Will money talk for Costa (Monaco) or will the Blues eventually get their man? Let us know your thoughts below.
