The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been frustrated with their side’s results over the last few months, but the lack of youth progression has been the biggest cause of friction amongst fans.
The Blues have become infamous for their lack of focus on young player development, with too much attention placed on the loan system and spending big money on foreign players.
Indeed, the mere mention of the Chelsea academy is often enough to get fans talking, and that’s exactly what has happened over on Twitter.
Chelsea’s under-18 team are set to take part in the FA Youth Cup semi-final this evening against Birmingham City. Chelsea have a rich history in the competition, having featured in the last six finals – winning the last four.
However, despite the success, very few of Chelsea’s starlets have even seen the first team, and that has, unsurprisingly, generated a lot of frustration amongst fans.

It’s fair to say that most aren’t happy, and they all seem to be pointing towards the same thing – their lack of involvement in the first team. With some fans calling for players to get a chance, and one even calling for the under-18 boss – Jody Morris – to replace Antonio Conte, the general theme amongst responses is clear.
Take a look at what they’ve had to say below…
Hypocrisy. Why spending so much on youth and they never made it to senior team.
