Chelsea fans can’t work out if £63m-rated attacker would be a good signing

For the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, it hasn’t been a very good season. Last year, their campaign was dominated by success and silverware, with a Premier League title win coming to Stamford Bridge during Antonio Conte’s first season in charge.

This season, though, poor individual form combined with a manager cutting a frustrated figure on the sidelines are just two of the things that have gone wrong.

Chelsea have looked a million miles away from the team that won the league last season, and so ahead of next year, Antonio Conte – or whoever is in charge – needs to turn things around.

Undoubtedly, the Blues’ brass will be looking to upgrade the team this summer, with a need for more firepower at Stamford Bridge.

One player that is constantly in the discussion of most English football fans is Gareth Bale, who is rated at a whopping £63 million by Transfer Markt. The Welshman was one of the Premier League’s best players a few years ago, earning himself a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid as a result.

It hasn’t quite gone to plan for him in Spain, and so naturally, fan speculation about a potential return to England was inevitable.

Chelsea fans over on Reddit have been ramping up that speculation over the last day or so by discussing whether they would like to see Bale move to Stamford Bridge.

It turns out that most aren’t really considering his form from his time in the Premier League, as the topic appears to be a very divisive one amongst fans.

As you can see below, some are very excited by the prospect…

However, other fans aren’t so keen, it seems. Many are drawing towards to his injury record as the main thing putting them off a deal. He has, of course, struggled with fitness trouble in Spain, and that has really hampered his progress. See what the more negative fans are saying below…

Clearly, then, a move for Bale would be very controversial. Whether Chelsea make a move or not remains to be seen, and indeed, it’s unclear as to whether Real Madrid even want to sell him – but it will be interesting to see what happens.
