Chelsea: Fans loved Marcos Alonso’s free-kick in training

Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso fell behind Emerson in the pecking order at the start of the season, limited to just a single minute off the substitutes’ bench prior to starting against Wolverhampton Wanderers back in mid-September (via Transfermarkt).
Can Callum Hudson-Odoi fill Eden Hazard's boots?
Yes

No

However, since the 5-2 win over Wolves, the Spaniard has started all but one of Chelsea’s seven fixtures in all competitions – the 2-1 loss to Liverpool, where he was introduced off the bench inside 15 minutes due to an injury to Emerson – scoring once and assisting twice during those seven games, per Transfermarkt.
Alonso proved to be the match-winner against Newcastle on Saturday afternoon, breaking the deadlock for the Blues with a driven strike from the left-hand side of the penalty area after some good build-up play from Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
With Emerson returning to training following his hamstring injury, Alonso is expected to have a battle on his hands to keep his position in Frank Lampard’s starting XI, though he is building a strong case for himself following recent performances.
The 28-year-old also reminded supporters just how deadly he is from set pieces, too, whipping this delicious free-kick into a makeshift top corner constructed by Blues keeper Willy Caballero.
Here’s how Chelsea fans reacted to the strike on Twitter…
