Chelsea fans will be licking their wounds for a long time after yesterday. The Blues were thoroughly embarrassed by Manchester City at The Etihad yesterday. Their 6-0 defeat was their heaviest ever in the Premier League and the fans were in no mood to let players have a free ride, with Marcos Alonso taking a battering from the travelling Blues.

Alonso was one of the key figures under Antonio Conte's Chelsea, with the Spaniard doing everything right up and down the left flank as a wing-back. However, the 28-year-old has been unable to replicate that form that he showed when playing as a wing-back on the side of a three when he starts in a flat four at the back, and he simply isn't good enough there in Maurizio Sarri's setup.

In the defeat yesterday the Spaniard looked devoid of confidence, tired and all in all like he just didn't want to be there. It's hard to blame him though, seeing as the 6-0 thumping was Chelsea's heaviest defeat since they fell to a 7-0 thrashing at the hands of Nottingham Forest before the birth of the Premier League in April 1991. Somehow, Chelsea and Alonso need to bounce back from the defeat, and facing Malmo in the Europa League could be the perfect game to do just that.

The Blues hated having to suffer yesterday's defeat and would cut ties with Marcos Alonso now if they could.
