While Chelsea's No.9 dilemma should be coming to an end with the signing of Gonzalo Higuain, Maurizio Sarri will still have concerns about other areas of his squad.

The Italian has made it abundantly clear on more than one occasion that the Blues would need to sign a replacement for Cesc Fabregas this month (Sky Sports) with Jorginho needing cover in the deep-lying midfield role.

With that in mind, the west London club had identified Zenit St Petersburg's Leandro Paredes as one potential option, though the Telegraph reports a deal now looks unlikely after Paris Saint-Germain swooped in with a £34.9m offer for the 24-year-old.

Given that Jorginho's form has dipped of late with Sarri admitting the Brazilian-born Italy international is tired (Goal), missing out on Paredes will come as a huge blow.

The Argentine looked like a great alternative for Jorginho with his vision and immaculate range of passing.
