The Blues have allegedly given Los Blancos first refusal over the Frenchman if they do decide to sell him next summer – Madrid will also have the option to match any bid for the 27-year-old should another club make an offer for him.
Kante was linked with a move to the Bernabeu this summer and looked as though he may follow in the footsteps of his former Chelsea teammate Eden Hazard by making the switch to the Spanish capital, per the Express.
A move never came to fruition, however, and the 2018 World Cup winner remained in west London upon the closure of the summer transfer window at the beginning of September.
Chelsea’s reasoning for this deal is because of Madrid’s good behaviour throughout the Eden Hazard transfer saga this summer. Los Blancos did not force the Blues into letting their star asset go and, because of that, Zidane’s side have been rewarded.
Here’s how some fans reacted to the news on Twitter, and it’s fair to say that they’re not best pleased with the idea of letting their star midfielder leave:
If we sell him we’re officially finished
