Chelsea: Fans rue Oscar’s departure in comparison to Ross Barkley

Over the years, Chelsea have seen many players come and go. One of the most notable players to depart west London in recent history, though, is Brazilian midfielder Oscar.

What made the South American’s exit so notable was where he was heading to, China. At just 26 years of age, Oscar decided to leave one of Europe’s biggest and most successful clubs for a mega-money (around £60m per the BBC at the time) move to Shanghai SIPG in 2017, trading life in the Premier League for a fresh venture in the up-and-coming Chinese Super League.

Since his move to East Asia two years ago, Oscar has scored 36 goals and provided 60 assists for his current employers, winning the CSL title with them last season.

On Monday the Brazil international turned 28, which is arguably the peak of a footballer’s career. Indeed, respected Chelsea supporters page, @TheBlues__ wished the playmaker – who won two Premier League titles with the west Londoners during his tenure at the club – a happy birthday.

Here’s how some followers reacted, it’s clear that a few would prefer him over current midfielder Ross Barkley…
