Chelsea fans are looking pleased here in the Football Transfer Tavern as the Daily Express claim that the club have finally sorted out a deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s Andre Schurrle.
The player has long been linked with a move to the West London club and it had been thought that a £20 million deal was set to be finalised with Jose Mourinho wanting to make the young star his first official signing.
Then came the news that due to Kevin de Bruyne wanting to join Borussia Dortmund next season, not being a part of the deal for Schurrle in swapping to go to Bayer Leverkusen, the deal was in the balance.
Given how highly rated Schurrle is and how many clubs are tracking him, Chelsea fans were getting more than a little bit nervous but now it seems that not only has a £20 million fee been agreed for the player but de Bruyne has also decided that a season long loan to Leverkusen may not be as bad as he initially thought.
Having impressed so much during his spell at Werder Bremen it is no shock that Chelsea want to keep the player long-term and see how he develops – fitting in with Mourinho’s new vision of a dynasty at the club where the young talent is nurtured and brought through gradually.
