Chelsea finally wash their hands of Stamford Bridge flop

Fernando Torres‘Finally’. That is the word on the lips of the majority of Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern today after the latest claim from the Daily Mail – well that and the phrase ‘bring over the champagne’.

Fernando Torres have finally exited Stamford Bridge after a £50 million fee and essentially zero return for the club.

Chelsea have resorted to sending him on loan to Serie A side AC Milan for the rest of his contract – a massive two years – in order to get rid of him and free up a place in the squad.

As our regulars note, now we can forget Torres, this does leave the question of just what Jose Mourinho plans to do now.

The Blues boss only has Diego Costa and Didier Drogba left to lead the line in a side who plan on challenging on all four fronts until the end of May.

Roma’s Mattia Destro, QPR’s Loic Remy and Swansea City’s Wilfried Bony have all been linked with Chelsea and we certainly think it will be an interesting end to the window for the Blues.

Chelsea fans. Are you pleased to see the back of Torres? Is it about time? Let us know your thoughts below.
