Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are wondering what might have been if their gamble on this striker paid off, with the player now set for an exit after a disastrous spell in England.
ESPN quote Colombian forward Radamel Falcao as confirming he will leave Chelsea this summer upon the expiration of his loan spell, bringing a close to two disappointing seasons in the Premier League- the first of which was with Manchester United.
The 30-year-old has started just once for Chelsea in the Premier League during another injury-ravaged season and, despite reports linking him with a return to Argentine club River Plate in the summer, Falcao stated the plan is to play with parent club Monaco.
“In February, Chelsea told me that I was not going to be counted on as I will not be staying there for the coming seasons. At that stage, when they tried again, it was already too late to return to River.”
“You must understand that when a club like Monaco makes a big investment as they did with me, they want a certain return on that investment.”
“At the moment they want me back at the club, for me to play there, they want me for next season, so I see the chance of returning to River as being difficult, as I still have two years of my contract left. At the moment, Monaco’s plan is for me to spend next season with them.”
Previously regarded as one of the best striker’s in Europe during his time with Porto and Atletico Madrid, our landlord feels the Colombian will never return to his previous heights.
