Chelsea manager Frank Lampard was full of praise for winger Christian Pulisic following his hat-trick yesterday.
The 21-year-old was the star attraction for the Blues as they won on the road yet again, dispatching Burnley 4-2 with a clinical display of finishing.
Pulisic, who signed for Chelsea in the summer in a mega-money move from Borussia Dortmund, was finally given his Premier League chance by manager Frank Lampard and he wasted little time in showing his manager what he’s been missing out on.
Lampard, though, was full of praise for the American and in his post-match comments, detailed the thought process behind easing Pulisic into the fold.
“I’m absolutely delighted for him. There’s been a lot of talk around Christian because of the big price tag, the fact he’s a star in his country and captain of the USA national team,” Lampard told the Blues’ official website.
“I’ve tried to deal with it in the way I see best, which is to give him minutes. He has played games this season already but I’ve also got competition in that area and I need them all trying to perform when they get in the team.
“I know what a good player he is because I see it close up every day. There are obviously things that he has to learn and improve because he’s just turned 21 and it’s the same as all the other young players, but he knows that and he knows I’m driving that daily in training,” Lampard added.
Pulisic was in the team after impressing in the mid-week win at Ajax. His time in Dortmund was a hugely successful one, albeit without too many goals coming his way. The three he got yesterday has already put him just one behind his best total in the Bundesliga for a season, where four was the maximum he managed in league competition.
Chelsea will be looking for more of the same from the American going forward as he looks to compete with the likes of Callum Hudson Odoi, Willian, and Mason Mount in wide attacking areas.
