Chelsea given boost in pursuit of goalkeeper, summer move could still be possible

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern thought that this transfer saga had come to an end…

The story of the new year for Chelsea surrounded their goalkeeping situation. Asmir Begovic was reportedly keen on making a switch to Bournemouth, and that move seemingly relied upon the Blues bringing in an adequate replacement.

Craig Gordon was the reported target of choice for the Blues, but Chelsea were unable to get their transfer over the line.

It seems as though the transfer is far from dead, though, with the Daily Mail reporting that contract talks between Celtic and Gordon have stalled.

Interestingly, they note that there is still a possibility of the goalkeeper making a switch to Chelsea in the summer – with talks reportedly shelved until the end of the season at the earliest.

This has drawn a relatively positive reaction from the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, with many feeling that Gordon could be perfect for Chelsea. He has been a key part of Celtic’s incredible run of form in the Scottish Premier League, and Chelsea would certainly benefit from his experience.

That doesn’t take away their concern that Thibaut Courtois could leave the club, though, with Real Madrid reportedly keen.

Chelsea’s goalkeeping situation is certainly going to change in the summer, and our landlord thinks that Conte simply must resolve it quickly if he wants to ensure long-term success.
